Upcoming Global Compact events: December 2008

This is an overview of events that may be of interest to critics and observers of the UN Global Compact. More information can be obtained here.

- Launch of the UN Global Compact Network Sudan, 1 December 2008, Khartoum, Sudan

"This event will bring together senior representatives of business, the United Nations, Government and other national and international organizations to explore how companies can work to implement the ten principles and advance corporate social responsibility in Sudan. The event will also facilitate multi-stakeholder collaboration and partnerships aligned with the priority needs of the country and launch a Global Compact Local Network in Sudan." All Global Compact participants with operations in Sudan are invited to participate.

- Global Forum for Responsible Management Education, 4 – 5 December 2008, New York

"The Global Forum for Responsible Management Education will be the first conference of its kind to be held at the UN in New York, bringing together the leadership of top-ranked business schools, company executives and UN representatives to discuss and showcase good practices in responsible management education and research. The Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiative is the first organized relationship between the United Nations and business schools. To date, over 120 business schools and management-related academic institutions from around the world have adopted PRME." - International Seminar on Business and Human Rights, 4 – 5 December 2008, Paris

"This seminar will celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and provides an opportunity to review global progress on this issue over recent years and chart the developments ahead. The event will bring together business, political, civil society and trade union leaders, as well as diverse learning from around the world. The seminar will be chaired by Mary Robinson, Chair of the Business Leaders Initiative on Human Rights, President of Realizing Rights: The Ethical Globalization Initiative, former President of Ireland and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights." - The Labor Dimension of Corporate Social Responsibility: From Principles to Practice, 10 – 12 December, Turin, Italy

"This three-day course is designed to provide participants with an overall understanding of Corporate Social Responsibility as well as with valuable guidelines in addressing CSR-related labor and employment issues at the workplace. To this purpose, the ILO’s Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy (ILO MNE Declaration) will be unpacked as the main point of reference and foundation for good CSR policies and practices. The course is designed for ILO constituents and professionals involved with CSR and labor practices issues, such as project managers, executives and technical experts from enterprises of all sectors and sizes, workers' and employers' organizations and governments." - Second Meeting of the Global Compact Labor Working Group, 16 December 2008, UN Headquarters, New York
