Bangladeshi Global Compact participants urged to report on progress

Yesterday Farooq Sobhan, president of the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI), urged Global Compact signatories in Bangladesh to submit Communications on Progress (COPs) to the Global Compact Office in New York.

During a training program on "Communication on Progress for the UNGC Signatories in Bangladesh", Mr. Sobhan said that most of the Bangladeshi business participants have failed to submit reports on progress.

According to the Global Compact's participant database, there are only 12 active business participants in Bangladesh. Twenty Bangladeshi companies are listed as non-communicating and two as inactive. This means that nearly 65 percent of the Bangladeshi business participants do not communicate on progress.

The president of the BEI warned that "inactive participants can no longer attend UNGC events and are not permitted to use their logo. It is not just a simple commitment to the initiative. It means remaining engaged in promoting the principles of Compact."
